Getting Ready to Head out

Sherri and I are getting ready for our trip west. We will be leaving Amarillo in the next couple of days as soon as we map out a route and find some places to stay.
We have enjoyed our stay here in Amarillo and especially the trip south to Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Sherri was a real trooper heading down into the canyon and never once whimpered the whole decent. She is a little skiderish about driving close to drop offs in the mountains. This is an issue we will have to face when we head out in the Jeep on the back mountain roads in Colorado.
I have all my fishing apparatus ready to go and can't wait to hit the lakes and rivers in the mountains. I hope to get some  great photos while there and I will share them with our friends and family out there...

Texas at Palo Duro Canyon

We made it to the Canyon late yesterday...picked up our tickets and then toured the park for about an hour. There is so many beautiful sites to see there and we took in all we could.
Sherri and I have been here before but when we entered the park it was like we had never seen it before. She freaked out about the decent into the park. If you have ever been here you know what I mean. I know many of our RV friends have taken their homes down into the canyon and had no problem. I was not allowed to even think about taking Sherri's home down there so I just had to settle for a trip in the Jeep.

We took the Jeep and toured the park

After the play we met the cast and had some of them sign Kris's program. I had my picture taken with the great great grandson of Quana Parker

Kristopher wanted to meet the women. They took to him and had him pose with them

Everyone of the cast members were so nice and were more than happy to sign Kris's book

This was a great adventure and well worth the money. I recommend anyone that visits the Palo Duro Canyon State Park see this play.

We headed out of the park around 11:00 pm. and had a safe journey to the RV Park. This was the end of one of our many adventures that we have embarked on here...

Getting ready for Palo Duro Canyon

We were up early  this morning and started planning our trip to Palo Duro Canyon. Sherri and I have been there before but Becky and Rodney had not been. We wanted to spend some time there but we had to work in eating and getting our tickets for the Texas Show.
The Texas Show, from what we hear is a must see. The ticket prices were not all that bad so we booked it for this evening. We got the middle range tickets that put you on the side but they say you can see the stages that are on both sides and in front.
The plan is to stop at Furr's and eat before we get to the park. Our tickets should be waiting for us when we get there and then we will have some time to drive around and see the beautiful cliffs. The last time I was there we could wade in the Prairie Dog Fork of the Red River. It was really nice and picturesque. I will try to post tomorrow with some good pictures.
I guess you may have noticed that I have WIFI here at this park! Man is this nice. I will try to keep in touch better now that I have a good connection here....

We made it and then again we didn't

The day came for us to leave and we were so excited. We headed down the road to Hickory Creek COE park. I know it is only 100 miles from the lake but we wanted to spend some time with our kids that live in that area.
We did get to spend some time with Jason and his wife, also Janet Ellie and Kristen. We had a real good visit with everyone and then we told them all good-bye until the next time we are in the area.
We stayed there until Thursday and then we headed west to Wichita Falls Texas where we got our first refuel at the Flying J. From there we drove to Childress Texas where we had planned to stay the night and visit my grandparent's grave the next morning. Well as things would have it there was no room at the Inn and we had to move on to Amarillo Texas
When we were about 50 miles from Amarillo Sherri began to call some RV parks to see if we could get in. Once again there was no room at the Inn. We began to panic somewhat thinking we would be on the side of the road...well we can boondock.
If you ever need a place to stay in Amarillo pass this place up for sure. AOK RV Park really sucks and that is being real nice. When we arrived at the campground there was no one there to help us and we were told that we had to go across the street to the convenience store to check in. That should have told me something. We found two spots that were in bad shape and they both had nails and screws all over the place.
OK so we moved on to the Flying J and refueled and then I pulled the RV over to the truck parking lot and found a spot open next to the diesel trucks. We did not put out any slides and just made room inside so we could sleep. I was worried that there might be too much truck noise to get any sleep at all but I was surprised at how quiet it was.
We woke up the next morning and ate at Denny's which was located there at the truck stop. After breakfast we drove across the Interstate and pulled into the Texas Information Center. We found a spot there to stay for a while and then head to our reserved park on the other side of town. That is where we are now. We have set up the RV and have our patio ready for tonight's refreshments.
We have a whole lot to plan and this will be a good place to do just that...while we relax here...

The count down has started

Having been without Internet for so long I have not been able to post pictures nor have I been able to chat. It is all I can do just to post a short draft every once in a while. I know many of the family has wondered what has happen to my chatty spirit...well that sums it up there.
Sherri is still in bed and I woke up early this morning....made coffee and sat down here to plunk out some meaningless garble for those out there that give a hoot on what I am up to.
If it does not rain today I will be mowing the yard. I need to clean off the porch and wash the Jeep. Other than that I am free for the day.
I see where many of you are at the Escapades rally in Gillet Wy. We were unable to attend the rally this year due to our reservations in Colorado. I will be checking in from time to time to see how things are going.
Better sign off here...Sherri just rolled out of bed so I will spend some time with her before we start our day here....

Weather turns ugly

This morning just after we had poured our coffee, the sky became green...heavy with rain! Soon the wind picked up and blew the rain through the barn. It was as though we were in a wind tunnel! We immediately moved indoors to save from getting drenched.
I did not know if it would ever stop. I turned on our weather radio and listened to the reports from NOAA. Our satellite went out so we could not see what was going on.  The weather radio just said it was a severe thunderstorm and no tornado warning was issued. Thank heavens! The storm finally blew past us and the winds died down.
We needed this rain. The lake here is so low. We hope it will return to its original level...

Here on the porch

Sherri and I woke up and headed to the kitchen for some morning fuel. The mornings have been so nice here. Short of having a mountain spring running down the back of our place it would be a great place to spend some time.
You will have to forgive me I am on my phone and my fat fingers don't do well on this keyboard. I am getting better as time goes on.
Today I will continue to get the property here ready for our departure. We will be gone for 3 months and maybe longer if we find somewhere to head off to.
